Geek Stuff: How to upload photos from smartphone to Picasaweb

Easiest way would be to e-mail it to your Picasaweb account. Here's how to set this up:

  1. Sign in to your acount at http://picasaweb.com/
  2. Click the Settings icon in the top-right corner (it looks like a little jaggered wheel), then choose Photo Settings.
  3. In General tab in the 'Upload photos by email' section, check the box next to 'Allow me to upload photos by email'. Type in a "secret word", 6-15 characters long. As you enter this word, an email address appears.
  4. Click 'Save Changes' button at the bottom of the page.

Now that you have set up the email feature all you need to do is send your photo attachment to the unique email address as specified.

Geek Stuff: Sharing photos with Picasa Web

Picasa Web Albums makes sharing your digital pictures quick and easy. It provides 1 GB of free storage although photos and videos under certain sizes don't count towards this storage (I'll cover this in a seperate post). All you need to start using Picasa Web Albums is a Google account (this links all your google web applications together, like Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs etc.).

  1. Go to http://picasaweb.google.com/and sign in (or create account if you haven't got one yet).
  2. Click the Upload button.
  3. Type in a new album name (the field automatically populates the date as the album name) OR click on add to an existing album to bring up a drop down list for you to choose the album you want to upload to.

  4. Click on select photos from your computer button.
  5. A box will pop up for you to choose which files you want to upload. To select multiple photos from the same folder: => hold down the Ctrl key (Windows) or the Command key (Mac) on your keyboard while clicking the photo files with your mouse.
  6. After all files have been uploaded (you will see the *small* pictures on the screen instead of the progress bars for each file) you can hover your mouse pointer over each picture to add a caption, zoom, rotate, or delete within the upload screen.
  7. Click Add photos button at the bottom of the screen. The page will refresh to the album you just uploaded the photos to.

To share the album you have just uploaded your pictures to just click on Share button. A box will pop up where you type in e-mail addresses of those you want to share your album with, and where you can type in a message to the recipients too.
